Spinal Adjustments and Manipulation

Our bodies are well-suited to carry our daily loads. But over the course of life, it is inevitable that things happen, such as an auto accident, tripping at home, or an incident at work, that can lead to our parts falling out of alignment. Dr. Slavik B. Goras with the Spine and Disc Center of Washington in Fircrest, WA, performs adjustments to help relieve the pains these can cause.

How Do Our Joints Become Misaligned?

Our spinal columns are built from vertebrae and discs that stack upon each other and are supported by our core muscles. This helps to protect the spinal cord.

Traumas such as bending, lifting, twisting wrong, sitting or laying wrong or for too long,  being on our phones/laptops/computers and so on, every day activities of daily living that we overdo or perform improperly can cause the vertebrae to misalign which in turn can cause the discs and other joints to degenerate, bulge  or protrude.

Similarly larger traumas such as car accidents, falls or heavy lifting can cause a joint to misalign or a disc to herniate or bulge out. The most common joints to misalign are facet, discs, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. In our clinic we concentrate mostly on the disc and facet joints of the spine.

Our adjusting techniques

We use state of the art instruments for our spinal adjustments: such as activator technique, Arthrostim, drop table technique, SOT blocking, flexion-distraction, and occasionally when necessary diversified. We begin by x-raying all our patients and by using the Pettibon technique we get precise, and very specific angles, which show us the misalignment of the vertebra’s, which in turn help us give you the best and most precise adjustments. Our adjustments are gentle and noninvasive, which means more enjoyable for you as a patient and pain free.

How Can Chiropractic Adjustments Help?

Chiropractors are trained to understand the musculoskeletal system. They know how each of these moving parts are supposed to work together, as well as how best to get every part back to where they are supposed to be.

Chiropractors can manually work with the body without surgery to ensure everything is back in the proper places and healing adequately.

Spinal Decompression

Because backs are the center of all of our activities, many important things are housed in this area. Nerves that support each of our vital parts run through the spine. If the vertebrae can become misaligned, the discs and nerves can become pinched. Some back muscles will have to work harder to compensate for an uneven load. Nerve pinches can lead to tingling, burning, or numbness to parts of the body as well as muscle pains.

Spinal decompression works by moving the herniated disc tissue back into place. This relieves the uneven load to the back as well the pressure on pinched nerves or discs.

Sciatica

The sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down the leg, is one of the most common to get pinched during a back injury. Chiropractic adjustments similar to the ones used in the rest of the body will help with sciatica.

Headaches

Spinal misalignment that impacts the back muscles often impacts the neck and shoulders, as well. Relieving muscle pain causes tension headaches to dissipate. Chiropractic adjustments also improve blood flow, which can relieve many headaches.
